“Eu soube que meu neto de 16 anos, Abduirhman – um cidadão norte-americano –, foi morto por um drone norte-americano. Um míssil matou-o, assim como seu primo e pelo menos outras cinco pessoas, enquanto eles estavam jantando em um restaurante ao ar livre, no sul do Iêmen”.

Quem relata é Nasser al-Awalaki, que foi ministro da Agricultura do Iêmen, em artigo publicado sexta-feira (19 julho 2013), no International Herald Tribune. Ele revela que dois anos depois o governo dos EUA ainda se recusa a explicar por que Abduirhman foi assassinado. Até que em maio deste ano Obama disse que ele era o responsável por sua morte.

Abduirhman nasceu em Denver, onde viveu até os sete anos, indo em seguida com seu avô no Iêmen. Em 2010, o governo Obama colocou o pai dele, Anwar, filho de Nasser, também cidadãos norte-americanos, na “kill list” da CIA e do Pentágono, com acusações de terrorismo, mas sem qualquer processo que fundamentasse essas acusações. Um drone matou-o pouco depois no sul do Iêmen.

“Um país que acredita que não tem nem necessidade de responder por matar a seus próprios cidadãos não é o país que eu conheci”, acrescenta Nasser. Depois da morte dos dois, ele demandou o Judiciário dos EUA, mas recebeu a resposta de que o projeto dos drones estava além de qualquer ação do Judiciário.

“O governo matou um garoto norte-americano de 16 anos. Deveria ele pelo menos explicar por quê?” – termina Nasser em seu artigo desesperado.
