Emanuel E. Garcia – TRANSCEND Media Service

The wars are always with us,
Near or far,
A bass line to the splendid riffs
That mark our best –
Displays of wit or kindnesses,
The beauty of our arts, the honest touch,
A simple stillness in the contemplation of horizon lights –
Whatever flashes forth to cheer a faltering heart

Some say they’re necessary as accompaniment –
A kind of elevator music –
Just because they’ve always been

But surely there’s another, better world
Where we can ride
Without such din
