Queen Lili'uokalani

Queen Lili’uokalani

On January 17, 1893 U.S. Marines assisted wealthy sugar barons to illegally overthrow the independent nation and lawful Hawaiian government of Queen Lili’uokalani. Despite efforts to sugar coat history, no lie can live forever! 120 years of continuous illegal U.S. occupation of Hawai’i does not make the occupation legal. Ignoring the events of January 17, 1893 or pretending that such events did not occur does not right the wrong.

The past 120 years of illegal U.S. occupation of Hawai’i has seen the building of an illegal high-rise “House of Cards. One illegal floor has been built upon another, and another, and another. Illegal land titles, fake state and county governments, more than 110 U.S. military installations, etc. etc. The time has come for the illegal “House of Cards” to come down.

Under international law, the illegal occupying power must withdraw. It was true after WWII in Japan and Germany. It is true in Hawai’i today. The Independent Nation of Hawai’i with its lawful government must be restored and the illegal U.S. occupation must end.

So on this 121st commemoration of that “Day of Infamy” — January 17, 1893, as Hawai’i and the U.S. celebrates Martin Luther King, indeed “Let Freedom Ring.” Let Freedom Ring — to end racism and injustice in the U.S.; to end U.S. imperial wars abroad; and to end illegal occupations everywhere –Tibet, Palestine, etc. and yes – Hawai’i!

Free Hawai’i Now!  Ground the Drones!  Say No to War!

  • Mourn all victims of violence.
  • Reject war as a solution.
  • Defend civil liberties.
  • Oppose all discrimination, anti-Islamic, anti-Semitic, anti-Hawaiian, etc.
  • Seek peace by peaceful means through justice in Hawai`i and around the world.
