What’s Joker’s Joke?
Edward Curtin – TRANSCEND Media Service, 11 Nov 2019

The joker’s joke is no joke at all. It is deadly serious. When Arthur Fleck says, “I used to think my life was a tragedy, but now I realize it’s a comedy,” and unleashes his murderous violent rage with a Joker’s smile, he was turning into those he condemned as his oppressors. Their nihilism became his own; their violence his. The film asks us to contemplate such a marriage of seeming opposites, its dialectic, and not turn away from the faces in the mirror.

The Metamorphosis of the Deep State
Edward Curtin – TRANSCEND Media Service, 4 Nov 2019

2 Nov 2019 – To think that the deep state is government employees just doing their patriotic duty is plain idiocy and plainer propaganda, just as denying its existence was. It is a trick, not the treat it is made to seem.

Public Notices/Private Questions/Musical Dreams
Edward Curtin – TRANSCEND Media Service, 7 Oct 2019

3 Oct 2019 – Throughout our days we all notice many things that elicit questions that quickly pass through us as in a dream. Here are some questions that I caught on the fly before they melted from my mind, and when I asked myself what the answers were, only songs came to me, songs that didn’t exactly answer the questions but set me to dreaming. This is an invitation to dream along.

Why Does Chris Hedges Hedge His Bets?
Edward Curtin – TRANSCEND Media Service, 30 Sep 2019

27 Sep 2019 – The CIA’s mind control operations need to be exposed, as Hedges does to a degree in this latest article. But revealing while concealing is unworthy of one who condemns “creeps who revel in human degradation, dirty tricks, and murder.” It itself is a form of mind control. Perhaps he will see fit to publicly explain why he has done this.

Will NPR Now Officially Change Its Name to National Propaganda Radio?
Edward Curtin – TRANSCEND Media Service, 16 Sep 2019

Back in the 1960s, the CIA official Cord Meyer said the agency needed to “court the compatible left.” He knew that drawing liberals and leftists into the CIA’s orbit was the key to efficient propaganda. Right-wing and left-wing collaborators were needed to create a powerful propaganda apparatus that would be capable of hypnotizing audiences into believing the myth of American exceptionalism and its divine right to rule the world.

Jeffrey Epstein and the Spectacle of Secrecy
Edward Curtin – TRANSCEND Media Service, 26 Aug 2019

21 Aug 2019 – When phrases such as “the deep state” and “conspiracy theory” become staples of both the corporate mainstream media and the alternative press, we know the realities behind these phrases have outlasted their usefulness for the ruling elites and for their critics. These phrases are bandied about so often that they have become hackneyed and inane.

A Dreaming Stranger on a Train
Edward Curtin – TRANSCEND Media Service, 12 Aug 2019

“Perhaps that’s what I feel, an outside and an inside and me in the middle, perhaps that’s what I am, the thing that divides the world in two, on the one side the outside, on the other the inside, that can be as thin as foil, I’m neither one side nor the other, I’m in the middle, I’m the partition, I’ve two surfaces and no thickness, perhaps that’s what I feel, myself vibrating, I’m the tympanum, on the one hand the mind, on the other the world, I don’t belong to either.” — Samuel Beckett, Waiting for Godot

When Warriors Become Saints
Edward Curtin – TRANSCEND Media Service, 29 Jul 2019

As I sit on the small balcony on the top floor of an old house in Lisbon, Portugal, it is early evening, the time for wine and voices wafting on the fragrant breeze… Wherever you go, the monuments and statues glorifying humanity’s violent history are always presented as a form of liberation. Tourist attractions. Generals, princes, and kings atop horses, brandishing swords and guns, “grace” squares and monuments as a reminder to the common folk.

Happenings in the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave
Edward Curtin – TRANSCEND Media Service, 15 Jul 2019

11 Jul 2019 – The books were published by two old and respected publishing houses: Harper and Little Brown. However, something was odd, for the word fuck was spelled f*ck. These books were about hope, acceptance, and living the good life, cliché topics in a feel-good culture: The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck, Everything is F*cked, and Calm the F*ck Down. It seemed you had to be fucked first before you could accept the hope that the good life was coming your way.

Once Upon a Time Never Comes Again: Bob Dylan, a Masked Man in Search of Redemption?
Edward Curtin – TRANSCEND Media Service, 24 Jun 2019

21 Jun 2019 – It is quite a story, powerful enough to induce one to ask: Who are we becoming in this American Dream? Will we keep sleeping through the nightmares we create and support, or will be return home with Dylan and embrace the radical truth he once gifted us with and dare to “tell it and speak it and think it and breathe it/And reflect from the mountains so all souls can see it” that our country continues to kill and oppress people all around the world as it did once upon a time very long ago?

Speeding into the Void of Cyberspace as Designed
Edward Curtin – TRANSCEND Media Service, 3 Jun 2019

While Internet billionaires like Larry Page, Sergey Brin, and Mark Zuckerberg slam government surveillance, talk up freedom, and embrace Snowden and crypto privacy culture, their companies still cut deals with the Pentagon, work with the NSA and CIA, and continue to track and profile people for profit. It is the same old split-screen marketing trick: the public branding and the behind-the-scenes reality.

18 Apr 2019 – For a writer to fight injustice to the exclusion of creating beauty and living passionately contradicts the deepest desires of the human heart. Albert Camus taught us this. The CIA Then and Now: Old Wine in New Bottles
Edward Curtin – TRANSCEND Media Service, 4 Feb 2019

When the CIA’s dirty tricks were made public in the 1970s, it is not hard to imagine that the intellectual pimps who do their long-range thinking were asked to go back to the drawing board and paint a picture of the coming decades and how business as usual could be conducted without further embarrassment. By that time it had become clear that intellectual or high culture was being swallowed by mass culture and the future belonged to electronic screen culture and images, not words.

Gandhi was assassinated on January 30, 1948 but the spirit of his nonviolent experiments with truth live throughout the world in individuals and groups. Edward Curtin – TRANSCEND Media Service, 21 Jan 2019

21 Jan 2019 – “Nothing in all the world is more dangerous,” warned Dr. King, “than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.” How true those words. Edward Curtin – TRANSCEND Media Service, 14 Jan 2019

Vincent, responding to Gauguin, a former stock broker, when he urged him to paint slowly and methodically, said, “I need to be out of control. I don’t want to calm down.” He knew that to be fully alive was to be vulnerable, to not hold back, to always be slipping away, and to be threatened with annihilation at any moment. When painting, he was intoxicated with a creative joy that belies the popular image of him as always depressed.

Phil Ochs and the Crucifixion of President John F. Kennedy
Edward Curtin – TRANSCEND Media Service, 19 Nov 2018

Whatever the truth in this age of “not knowing,” I think his story is a parable for our times. Whenever you think you’re getting the straight scoop, think again, and then again. The CIA’s Operation Mockingbird is still singing its siren song to convince us that the crucifixion was a one-time event, when Phil knew otherwise, right from the start and right to the end. I think he tried to warn us and wouldn’t be silenced, even in death.

The Cell Phone and the Virgin (2018): A Montreal Odyssey
Edward Curtin – TRANSCEND Media Service, 27 Aug 2018

Curtin’s primary odyssey was to try to unmask the true font of power in the contemporary world. The world had suffered a series of radical breaks with historical continuity and loss of identity with place, starting shortly after Adams was born in the mid-nineteenth century. Space and time had been contracted by the new technology. Adams had contemplated the dynamo. The computerized cell phone was its current symbol, and its evil twin the concentrated power of nuclear weapons. The modern mind had suffered severe dislocation and confusion.

A Writer’s Last Port of Call: V.S. Naipaul
Edward Curtin – TRANSCEND Media Service, 20 Aug 2018

V. S. Naipaul, the Nobel winning author who just died, was, like so many people, an enigma, at least in his writing. The Satanic Nature of the Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
Edward Curtin – TRANSCEND Media Service, 13 Aug 2018

Unless we enter into deep contemplation of the evil that was released into the world with those bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, we are lost in a living hell without escape. And we will pay. Nemesis always demands retribution. We have gradually been accepting rule by those for whom the killing of innocents is child’s play, and we have been masquerading as innocent and good children for whom the truth is too much to bear.

The Sexual Passion of Winston Smith
Edward Curtin – TRANSCEND Media Service, 23 Jul 2018

It may sound silly to say, but language, as its etymology tells us, begins with the tongue (Latin, lingua). And the tongue is a bell, tolling out its meaning. Indeed, all language springs from the body – is body language. And when language becomes abstract and devoid of blood, it becomes etiolated and unable to convey the truth that is the mystical body of the world. It becomes a viper’s tongue, dividing the “good” people from the “bad” so the good can eliminate the bad who have become abstractions.

Slow Suicide and the Abandonment of the World
Edward Curtin – TRANSCEND Media Service, 25 Jun 2018

21 Jun 2018 – I believe the story has it that when he was in jail for refusing the poll tax that supported slavery and the Mexican-American war, Thoreau was visited by his friend Ralph Waldo Emerson, who asked him, “Henry, what are you doing in there?” To which Thoreau responded, “Ralph, what are you doing out there?” Today, however, most folks don’t realize that being outside their cells is being in them, and such imprisonment is far from principled. That’s not a text message they’re likely to receive.

The Blatant Conspiracy behind Senator Robert F. Kennedy’s Assassination
Edward Curtin – TRANSCEND Media Service, 4 Jun 2018

June 5 is the 50th anniversary of RFK’s assassination. To honor such a man requires that we discover and speak the truth about those who killed him. False Flag Operations Will Start New War? Towards a U.S.-Israeli Attack on Syria and Lebanon?
Edward Curtin and Geopolitics and Empire – Global Research, 9 Apr 2018

An interview with Edward Curtin – All signs point toward an upcoming large-scale Israeli/U.S. attack on Syria and Lebanon, with Russia and Iran as the ultimate objectives. As always, the corporate media play along as if they don’t yet know what’s coming. Everyone in the know knows what is, just not exactly when. An Advent Calendar to Beat the Devil
Edward Curtin – TRANSCEND Media Service, 18 Dec 2017

The deeper problems connected with advertising come less from the unscrupulousness of our ‘deceivers’ than from our pleasure in being deceived, less from the desire to seduce than from the desire to be seduced. The Graphic revolution has produced new categories of experience. They are no longer simply classifiable by the old common sense tests of true or false. At no time is this more evident than in the months leading up to Christmas and the holidays.

These problems were created by science when it became untethered from any sense of limits in its embrace of instrumental rationality.

The Disappearance of Silence
Edward Curtin - Intrepid Report, 22 Aug 2016

Silence is a word pregnant with multiple meanings: for many a threat; for others a nostalgic evocation of a time rendered obsolete by technology; for others a sentence to boredom; and for some, devotees of the ancient arts of contemplation, reading, and writing, a word of profound, even sacred importance. Gandhi, the revolutionary, put it perfectly, “In the attitude of silence the soul finds the path in a clearer light, and what is elusive and deceptive resolves itself into crystal clearness. Our life is a long and arduous quest after Truth.”
