Don’t tell me that Portugal has had bad policies in the past and has deep structural problems. Of course it has; so does everyone. How can it possibly make sense to “deal” with these problems by condemning vast numbers of willing workers to unemployment? The answer to the kind of problems Portugal now faces, as we’ve known for many decades, is expansionary monetary and fiscal policy.

All it takes to form a co-op is a small group of determined people set on an idea to cooperatively own and operate a facet of the economy and allow them to make decisions in a democratic process. By democratizing society through housing and work, we can start a new revolution in our politics, our economy, and even our environment.

My decision to reveal the top secret Pentagon Papers to the American public was an act of conscience. Today, a young soldier named Bradley Manning faces trial for a similar act of conscience and faces life in prison — much like I did 40 years ago. And just as I was arrested and called a “traitor” by President Nixon, Bradley’s charges include an accusation of “aiding the enemy.”

“The New Digital Age” is an attempt by Google to position itself as America’s geopolitical visionary. Without even understanding how, they have updated and seamlessly implemented George Orwell’s prophecy. If you want a vision of the future, imagine Washington-backed Google Glasses strapped onto vacant human faces — forever. But this is essential reading for anyone caught up in the struggle for the future, in view of one simple imperative: Know your enemy.

Estamos começando a viver uma segunda grande depressão”. Para Louçã, a luta central da esquerda hoje é contra o capital financeiro que se julga imune à democracia e está escravizando países e povos.

The UN resolution also revealed its bias by recognizing the Syrian National Coalition “as the effective interlocutor needed for a political transition.” That the SNC is just one of many groups in a highly fragmented opposition and commands very little support within Syria itself is conveniently glossed over. Imposing the SNC upon the Syrian people in this manner is a clumsy attempt to effect a regime change of sorts.

Not only have the US and its allies been trying to militarily buttress the retreating anti-government militias, but now they aim to create a new phase in the conflict where states start asserting leverage against Syria in place of the weakening anti-government forces. In other words, external pressure is being applied to replace the declining internal pressure.
