Nobel Peace Laureate Mairead Maguire Sails with the Free Gaza Movement to Break the Siege of Gaza

On Tuesday, September 23, 2008 Mairead Maguire joined Palestinians,Israelis and Internationals from many countries to sail from Cyprus tobreak the Siege of Gaza. This is the second sailing into Gaza followingthe one in August, when 48 activists did it.

Before leaving Cyprus for Gaza, Maguire said:

“Like millions of people around the world, I feel for the people ofGaza, and particularly the children, suffering for two years now, undera Siege by the Israeli government policies.   The problem ofIsrael/Palestine is political, and there is a political solution. Butit can only be reached by dialogue and negotiation, not by thecollective punishment of the People of Gaza and Palestine by theIsraeli government. We hope the Siege will be lifted, violence from allsides will cease, and the Israeli government will enter intounconditional, all inclusive dialogue to solve the solvable problem inIsrael/Palestine.”
