Analogy

JOKE OF THE WEEK, 31 Jan 2011

Dietrich Fischer – TRANSCEND Media Service

The following analogy characterizes a typical Congress member’s attitude about the looming energy crisis:

A young man decided that he wanted to become a switching specialist with a railroad.  He studied his trade, and the time came for the final exam.  The examiner asked him:

“Suppose from one side on a single track, the Los Angeles Unlimited is approaching with 80 miles per hour, and from the opposite direction the Topica Santa Fe freight train with 60 miles per hour.  There is a shunt track, but it is not long enough to hold either of the two trains.  What would you do?”

The young man thought for a while, then he said, “I would call my brother.”  “Why would you call your brother?” the examiner wanted to know.  “Because he has never seen a train wreck.”
