27 Oct 2025 – At the 2025 Integrity Media Awards, Julian Assange was awarded the inaugural Courage in Journalism Award. His brother, Gabriel Shipton, accepted the award on Julian’s behalf.
Julian was awarded the inaugural Courage in Media Award.
On October 20, we held our first event: Freedom for the Press, with compelling panellists Andrew Wilkie MP, Melissa Fyfe and Greg Barns SC.
One message prevailed: press freedom is under threat. Between weak freedom of information laws, limited whistleblower protections, powerful defamation suits and monopolisation of the media, the space for public debate is narrowing.
In honour of Julian’s dedication to freedom of expression, Founder of The Information Rights Project Gabriel Shipton is helping to manage Project Spartacus, which aims to archive the 90,000 leaked documents on the Afghanistan war that Julian published.

Our September poll was a stark reminder of the importance of protection of freedom of expression. 50.8% of participants said they feel uncomfortable sharing their views, while 49.1 % said they feel comfortable. Thank you to the 608 people who took part.
