Russia’s President Vladimir Putin remains firm that Ukraine should not be granted a seat at the NATO table. This stems from the US’s Monroe Doctrine, a cornerstone of American foreign policy. Now, Putin and Russia are using the same principles to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO.
