Prologue: The Scrolls We Lost, The Wisdom We Seek[8]

In the annals of human history, few losses are as symbolic and haunting as the disappearance of the Dead Sea Scrolls [9]and the burning of the Great Library of Alexandria[10]. These were not merely collections of parchment and papyrus, they were repositories of wisdom, culture, and the moral imagination of past civilizations, now lost forever, thanks to the invasive zeal and aggression of the supposedly civilized Romans, under Julius Caesar, pursuing Pompeii[11], in the Battle of Pharsalus.[12] Their destruction marked more than the loss of knowledge; it signalled a rupture in humanity’s connection to its own soul.

‘The Silence Between the Scrolls,’ speaks to this rupture in modern terms. It reflects on how, in our age of information overload, we have forgotten how to listen. The scrolls of peace, once etched into the conscience of humanity, now lie buried beneath noise, ego, materialism and distraction. Like the ancient texts hidden in desert caves or consumed by fire, our inner wisdom has been silenced—not by force, but by neglect, ‘The Collapse of Character,’ echoes the fate of the Library of Alexandria. Just as that great institution was reduced to ashes, taking with it centuries of ethical, philosophical, and scientific insight, so too does the erosion of moral character has reduced our contemporary societies to mere hollow shells, of their glorious, former selves. When integrity is abandoned and virtue becomes optional, we risk repeating the same collapse, not of buildings, but of being, Homo sapiens, sapiens, the epitome of creation.

This manuscript is a call to rediscover the scrolls, not as relics of the past, but as living truths. It is an invitation to listen again, to remember what was lost, and to rebuild what was broken. For, in every age, the survival of our shared humanity depends not on what we know, but on what we choose to honour, remember and effect into practice.

This publication, highlights and uunearths ancient wisdom for a world in crisis. In an age where technological advancement outpaces ethical reflection, and noise often drowns out inner stillness, humanity finds itself adrift. The “Lost Scrolls of Peace” are not literal manuscripts, but symbolic vessels of forgotten truths, timeless principles of humility, compassion, and spiritual grounding that once guided civilizations through darkness.

This work is a journey to rediscover those scrolls—not in dusty archives, but within the human conscience. It explores how arrogance, ego-centricity, and moral decay form a cycle that leads to what can only be described as non-financial human bankruptcy[13]. Through this lens, we examine the erosion of spiritual and moral capital in modernity, and offer a survival guide for those seeking to reclaim their inner peace and purpose.

The Silence Between the Scrolls: Abacus to Bitcoin[14]

Rediscovering the Forgotten Language of Peace[15]

In the ruins of ancient civilizations, archaeologists have uncovered scrolls that once carried the wisdom of sages, the laws of empires, and the prayers of the devout. These scrolls, though weathered by time, still whisper truths to those who listen. But in the 21st century, the scrolls we most desperately need are not buried beneath sand or stone—they are buried within us.

We live in an era of unprecedented access to information, yet we suffer from a famine of wisdom. The digital age has given us speed, but not stillness; connection, but not communion. In this paradox, we have lost the scrolls of peace—not because they were stolen, but because we stopped seeking them.

The metaphor of the “lost scrolls” is not merely poetic—it is diagnostic. It points to a collective amnesia, a forgetting of the moral and spiritual frameworks that once anchored human dignity. These scrolls once taught us how to live with humility, how to honor the sacred in others, and how to find meaning beyond material wealth. Today, those teachings are drowned out by the noise of ego, arrogance, and moral relativism.

This chapter begins our journey to recover those scrolls—not as relics of the past, but as blueprints for the future. We will explore how the cycle of arrogance, ego-centricity, moral decay, spiritual emptiness, and dehumanization has led to what we now call non-financial human bankruptcy. This is not a bankruptcy of bank accounts, but of character. Not a deficit of currency, but of conscience.

To navigate this terrain, we must become both archaeologists and architects—digging deep into the soul of humanity while designing a new ethic for survival. The scrolls are not lost forever. They are waiting to be rewritten by those brave enough to live by their light.

The Currency of the Soul[16]

Understanding Non-Financial Human Bankruptcy

In the modern world, bankruptcy is most often understood in financial terms—a declaration of insolvency, a failure to meet obligations, a collapse of credit. But what if the same concept applied to the human spirit? What if individuals, communities, and even entire societies could become morally and spiritually insolvent?

Non-financial human bankruptcy is not a metaphor—it is a measurable condition. It manifests in the erosion of empathy, the normalization of cruelty, the commodification of relationships, and the abandonment of ethical responsibility. It is the quiet collapse that occurs when people no longer see value in virtue, when the soul is overdrawn and no deposits are made into the account of conscience.

This chapter explores the five elements that contribute to this bankruptcy, as illustrated in the circular flow of the previous diagram:

  1. Arrogance – The belief in one’s superiority blinds us to the wisdom of others and deafens us to the cries of the vulnerable. Visual Concept: Power imbalance, inflated ego, or superiority complex
  2. Ego Centricity – When the self becomes the center of the universe, all else becomes expendable. Visual Concept: Self-centered worldview, inability to see others’ perspectives
  3. Morality / Moral Collapse:– Once a compass, now often reduced to convenience or cultural trend, morality loses its grounding. Visual Concept: Decline of values, ethical erosion, societal breakdown moral chaos, as it is experienced presently.
  4. Spirituality – Not religion, but the inner sense of connection to something greater—when this is lost, so too is meaning. Visual Concept: Inner light, sacred geometry, meditation, divine connection and realisation of inner self . as well as reflection on how corrupted it has become, in the present era.
  5. Humanity / Empathy – The final casualty. When we forget what it means to be human, we forget how to live in peace. God created Humanoids, have the innate proclivity towards the pursuit of righteousness, truth, and justice. We experience intense pain when witnessing oppression, corruption, injustice, discrimination, xenophobia, intimidation, hypocrisy, bigotry, violence, and abuse. If you do not experience these feelings, then you are not human.Visual Concept: Compassion, connection, shared dignity

These elements do not exist in isolation. They feed into one another, forming a cycle that perpetuates disconnection and despair. The result is a society rich in data but poor in wisdom, abundant in goods but bankrupt in goodness.

To reverse this trend, we must redefine what it means to be “wealthy.” True wealth lies not in accumulation, but in alignment—with truth, with compassion, and with the sacred. The scrolls of peace remind us that the soul has its own economy, and it demands investment.

Echoes of the Sacred

Reclaiming Spirituality Without Dogma[17], [18]

In the modern world, spirituality is often misunderstood—either dismissed as superstition or confined within rigid religious frameworks. But true spirituality is neither archaic nor institutional. It is the quiet awareness of something greater than oneself, the inner compass that orients us toward meaning, compassion, and transcendence.

When we speak of spiritual bankruptcy, we are not referring to a lack of belief in a deity, but to a deeper disconnection from the sacred—however one defines it. It is the loss of awe, the absence of reverence, and the silencing of the inner voice that once whispered truths in moments of stillness.

This chapter explores how the erosion of spirituality contributes to the cycle of non-financial human bankruptcy. In a world obsessed with productivity, efficiency, and external validation, the soul is often left malnourished. We scroll endlessly, but rarely reflect. We consume, but seldom contemplate. The sacred becomes background noise in a culture of distraction.

Yet, the sacred has not disappeared—it only waits to be remembered.

The Scrolls Speak in Silence

The “lost scrolls” of peace are not written in ink, but in experience. They are found in the quiet of early morning, in the humility of service, in the courage to forgive, and in the stillness of breath. They remind us that spirituality is not about escaping the world, but engaging with it more deeply—with presence, with purpose, and with peace.

To reclaim spirituality is to reclaim the sacredness of life itself. It is to see the divine in the ordinary, to honour the dignity of others, and to live in alignment with values that transcend ego and ambition.

This reclamation does not require conversion, but awakening. It is not about adopting a new belief system, but about remembering what we already know deep within: that we are more than flesh and function—we are vessels of meaning, capable of love, wonder, and transformation.

The Collapse of Character of Humanity leading to Peace Disruption[19], [20]

When Morality Becomes Optional

In every age, morality has served as the scaffolding of civilization. It is the invisible architecture that holds societies together—an unspoken agreement about what is right, just, and honorable. But in the 21st century, that scaffolding is showing signs of collapse.

We live in a time when morality is often treated as subjective, fluid, or even inconvenient. The line between right and wrong is blurred by personal gain, political expediency, and cultural relativism. In such a climate, moral bankruptcy becomes not only possible, but prevalent.

This chapter examines the erosion of moral frameworks and how it contributes to the broader crisis of non-financial human bankruptcy. When morality is no longer rooted in shared values but in shifting opinions, it loses its power to guide behaviour. The result is a society where:

  • Integrity is negotiable.
  • Accountability is rare.
  • Consequences are outsourced or ignored.

The Scrolls of Moral Memory[21]

The “lost scrolls” of morality once taught us that character is not built in moments of comfort, but in moments of choice. They reminded us that justice is not a trend, but a timeless principle. That truth is not a weapon, but a light.

To reclaim morality is to return to these scrolls—not to impose dogma, but to rediscover the ethical compass that transcends culture and creed. It is to ask not only “What can I do?” but “What should I do?” It is to live with the awareness that every action either contributes to peace or detracts from it.

In a morally bankrupt world, the greatest act of resistance is to live with integrity. To speak truth when silence is easier. To choose compassion when cruelty is convenient. To be ethical not because it is rewarded, but because it is right.

Dehumanization of Human Worth[22]

Losing Touch with Our Shared Humanity[23]

At the heart of every spiritual and moral collapse lies a deeper tragedy: the loss of our shared humanity. When we no longer see ourselves in others—when empathy is replaced by indifference, and dignity is reduced to utility—we enter the final stage of non-financial human bankruptcy.

Dehumanization is not always loud or violent. Often, it is subtle. It happens in the quiet moments when we scroll past suffering, when we reduce people to labels, when we prioritize profit over people. It is the slow erosion of compassion, the normalization of cruelty, and the commodification of life itself.

This chapter explores how the breakdown of humanity completes the cycle of spiritual and moral decay. It is the point at which the soul becomes numb, and society becomes transactional. In such a world:

  • People are valued for what they produce, not who they are.
  • Relationships are measured in utility, not authenticity.
  • Vulnerability is seen as weakness, not as a bridge to connection.

The Scrolls of Human Worth[24]

The lost scrolls remind us that to be human is to be sacred. That every person carries an intrinsic worth that cannot be earned or erased. They teach us that peace is not possible without empathy, and that justice is hollow without compassion.

To reclaim our humanity, we must begin to see again. To look into the eyes of the other and recognize ourselves. To listen not just to respond, but to understand. To act not out of obligation, but out of love.

This reclamation is not abstract—it is practical. It begins in how we speak, how we serve, how we show up for one another. It is the daily decision to humanize in a world that often dehumanizes.

The Cycle Repeats

Recognizing the Pattern, Rewriting the Path

The tragedy of human history is not merely in its violence or injustice, but in its repetition. Time and again, civilizations have risen on the strength of moral clarity and spiritual depth—only to fall when arrogance, ego, and moral decay took root. The cycle is not new. What is new is our awareness of it.

In this chapter, we return to the circular flow of the five elements—Arrogance, Ego Centricity, Morality, Spirituality, Humanity—and examine how they form a self-perpetuating loop. Each element feeds the next, creating a vortex that pulls individuals and societies into deeper states of disconnection and despair.

But cycles, by nature, can be interrupted.

Breaking the Loop

To break the cycle of non-financial human bankruptcy, we must first recognize it. Awareness is the first act of resistance. From there, we must intervene at every point in the loop:

  • Challenge arrogance with humility.
  • Disrupt ego-centricity with service.
  • Rebuild morality with shared values.
  • Revive spirituality with stillness and meaning.
  • Restore humanity with empathy and action.

This is not a linear journey, but a spiral—one that can either descend into collapse or ascend into transformation. The direction depends on our choices.

The Scrolls as Compass[25]

The lost scrolls are not just metaphors—they are tools. They offer us a compass to navigate the chaos of modernity. They remind us that peace is not passive; it is a discipline. That healing is not accidental; it is intentional. That survival in the 21st century requires more than innovation—it requires inner revolution.

A Photo Collage of the Degradation of Humanity and Non-Financial Bankruptcy.
Photo Top Left: ‘The Silence Between the Scrolls’. The image depicts an ancient, partially unrolled scroll glowing faintly in a dark, modern setting, a cityscape and digital background, symbolizing forgotten wisdom in a noisy world. The scroll emits a soft light, suggesting hope and rediscovery of values of humanism, lost in the present era of materialism.
Photo Middle Left: “The Currency of the Soul”. Shows a human figure holding an empty wallet, but instead of money, faded virtues like ‘Compassion’, ‘Integrity’, and ‘Wisdom’ are slipping out. The background is a symbolic bank or vault, cracked and crumbling, representing moral and spiritual insolvency. The overall tone is solemn and reflective, with a modern, contemporary look.
Photo Bottom Left: Shows a human silhouette meditating or standing in stillness at the edge of a vast, glowing cosmic void. Around them, faint symbols from various spiritual traditions: a cross, crescent moon, Om, Star of David, and others floating subtly, representing universal spirituality beyond dogma. The overall tone is serene, reflective, and luminous, with a modern, contemporary aura.

The Inner Rebellion

Choosing Peace in a Culture of Noise[26],[27]

To live peacefully in the 21st century is an act of rebellion.

In a world that rewards speed, noise, and spectacle, choosing stillness is countercultural. In a society that glorifies self-interest, choosing compassion is revolutionary. And in an age of moral and spiritual bankruptcy, choosing to live with integrity, humility, and purpose is nothing short of radical.

This chapter is about that rebellion—not one waged with weapons, but with wisdom. Not a revolution of systems, but of souls.

The Quiet Power of Inner Peace[28]

Peace is often misunderstood as passivity. But true peace is active. It is the discipline of restraint in the face of provocation, the courage to forgive when vengeance is easier, the strength to remain grounded when the world is spinning.

The scrolls of peace teach us that inner peace is not the absence of conflict, but the presence of clarity. It is the ability to remain rooted in values even when the winds of culture shift. It is the refusal to be defined by fear, anger, or division.

Living the Scrolls[29], [30]

To live the scrolls is to embody their wisdom in daily life:

  • Speak truth with grace.
  • Serve without seeking recognition.
  • Listen more than you speak.
  • Choose empathy over judgment.
  • Create space for silence.

These are not grand gestures, but small, consistent acts of resistance against the forces that dehumanize and divide. They are the seeds of a new world, planted in the soil of the soul.

The Tale of the Sultan and the Intelligent Slave Girl, with the power of words.[31]

Covenant of Endogenous Peace.
A mind without materialistic pursuits, pure and unchained is the rarest form of beauty and humanity in human kind.
It is said that a Sultan once heard of a slave girl whose price exceeded that of a hundred others. Intrigued, he summoned her to his palace to discover what made her so exceptional. She entered with grace and dignity, a presence unlike any other.
The Sultan, surprised by her poise, asked: “Why is your price so high, girl?”
She replied with unwavering calm: “Because I possess intelligence.”
The Sultan, both amused and curious, challenged her:
“Answer me five questions. If you succeed, I will set you free. If you fail, you shall lose your life.” He asked: What is the finest garment? What is the sweetest scent? What is the most delicious food? What is the softest bed? And what is the most beautiful land?
The girl turned to those around her and said,
“Prepare my belongings and my steed, for I am leaving this palace as a free woman.”
Then she answered: The finest garment” Is the shirt of a poor man who owns nothing else  to him, it serves in both winter and summer. “The sweetest scent” Is the scent of a mother even if she stokes the fire in a bathhouse.” The most delicious food “Is what one eats in hunger for dry bread tastes rich when the belly aches.” “The softest bed” Is the one upon which the heart sleeps at ease for even golden sheets feel like thorns to the guilty.” As she walked proudly towards the door, the Sultan called out:  “You haven’t answered my final question, what is the most beautiful land?” She turned and said: “The land that is free…and not ruled by fools” Struck by her wisdom, the Sultan proclaimed:
“You have spoken truth. You are free.”
A tale woven with wisdom and power of words.

Epilogue: The Scrolls Are Not Lost, you the Reader, is the Saviour[33]

A New Covenant of Peace

The scrolls were never truly lost. They were buried beneath the noise, beneath the ego, beneath the distractions of a world that forgot how to listen. But they remain—etched into the conscience of every human being, waiting to be rediscovered.

This work has traced the contours of non-financial human bankruptcy, revealing how arrogance, ego-centricity, moral erosion, spiritual emptiness, and dehumanization form a cycle that threatens the soul of modernity. Yet, within this diagnosis lies a prescription: the scrolls of peace offer a way forward.

They are not ancient relics—they are living truths. They speak through acts of kindness, moments of stillness, and choices made in integrity. They call us to remember who we are, and who we can become.

A New Covenant[34]

Let this be a covenant—not written in stone, but in spirit. A commitment to live with humility, to serve with compassion, to speak with truth, and to walk with peace. Let us become scribes of a new age, authors of a more humane future.

The scrolls are in your hands now.

The Poor Heart: Subject of a life time of abuse by humankind. The Heart is fractured, symbolizing emotional and spiritual damage. The arrows symbolically represent ‘Spiritual Bankruptcy’ and ‘Moral Bankruptcy’. The dramatic lighting effect and a plain, dark background emphasizes the heart’s vulnerability and the gravity of the theme. The overall tone is solemn, reflective, and symbolic of inner collapse of entire humanity in pursuit of materialism and inevitable peace disruption. Specially created by the authors, as a Health Care Practitioner having consulted with patients suffering from cardiovascular disease and seen the ravages of stress on human heart for over 53 years in South Africa and abroad.

An Appeal to readers and a Global Call to Action and Mass mobilisation of all Peace Propagators, [35],[36]

Let us, as a collective body of Peace Propagators and Peace Lovers, become scribes of a new peace initiative and order for the 21st century. Reclaim the the ancient peace scroll from antiquity. Effect into practice, the teachings of Late Professor Johan Galtung[37]. [38], [39], [40], [41], [42], [43] the father of modern peace studies, pay attention to the ongoing initiatives of Professor Antonio Carlos Silva Rosa,[44],[45] the academic and philosophical progeny of Professor Galtung to make our world a peaceful place to inhabit.  I will be the legacy each of us will only leave behind. Rewrite the narrative. Live with intention, humility, and reverence for the sacred within and around us. The survival of our shared humanity depends on it., in fact it depends on you the peace enlightened reader, more importantly.

The Bottom-Line

The Bottom Line is without a conscious return to the values encoded in these metaphorical scrolls, society risks collapsing under the weight of its own spiritual poverty. The crisis is not merely economic or political, it is existential.

The Happy Watchful Gaze of the Angels of Divinity on Humanity, as we continue our miscreancy leading to gross Peace Disruption and a total collapse of human values, deeply entrenched into our chromosomes
