The Spy Who Tried to Stop a War: Katherine Gun’s Courage of Conscience
Stefan Schindler | Engaging Peace - TRANSCEND Media Service, 26 Apr 2021

21 Apr 2021 – The prosecution would be forced to reveal the Anglo-American “dirty tricks” to drum up support for the Iraq war. On the first day of the trial, the prosecution dropped all charges. Katherine Gun’s memo caused the U.N. Security Council to deny approval for the war, depriving Bush and Blair of the U.N. blessing they were hoping for.

A Buddhist Socialist Peaceable Kingdom
Stefan Schindler – TRANSCEND Media Service, 3 Aug 2020

Buddha was a “soft” social revolutionary. Marx developed his notion of “species consciousness” in order to encourage a shared commitment to animal rights and a clean environment. His endeavor echoes Pythagoras, Lao Tzu, and Buddha, three of the world’s first ecological sages.

Heart-Centered Rationality and the Peaceable Kingdom
Stefan Schindler – TRANSCEND Media Service, 13 Jul 2020

The war and suffering endemic in world structure puts prosperity first, with peace (and its appearance like shadows in Plato’s cave) flickering off and on as befits economic boom and bust. And Ye Shall Inherit the Whirlwind or Learn to Live in Gratitude and Grace (Parts 1 to 3)
Stefan Schindler | Engaging Peace – TRANSCEND Media Service, 15 Jul 2019

We are free to become free. This is the lesson taught by Socrates. It is also the essence of Buddhism. The word “Buddha” means “awake.” Awakening, as Plato would say, is recollecting the sanity we were born with. Nietzsche quotes Pindar: “Become who you are.” We are inextricable strands in the holistic web of being and becoming. Said the poet Byron: “Are not the mountains, waves, and skies, a part of me and of my soul, as I of them?” John Lennon said: “I am the walrus.”

Enlightenment and Social Hope
Stefan Schindler – TRANSCEND Media Service, 16 Apr 2018

During America’s wars on Puerto Rico and the Philippines, Mark Twain declared: “America’s flag should be a skull-and-crossbones.” And when Mahatma Gandhi was asked what he thought of Western civilization, he replied: “I think it would be a good idea.”
