We stand on the verge of one of the bleakest periods in human history, when the bright lights of civilizations will blink out and we will descend for decades, if not centuries, into barbarity. The elites, who successfully convinced us that we no longer possessed the capacity to understand the revealed truths presented before us or to fight back against the chaos caused by economic and environmental catastrophe, will use their resources to create privileged little islands where they will have access to security and goods denied to the rest of us. (p. 197)

“Development” from traditional villages to modern states means building hierarchies around omnipotent State logic, omnipresent Capital logic and omniscient Science logic. God’s successors all, monopolizing challenges. Not strange that many migrate to villages. First conclusion: Handicapped of all kinds unite! You have only your “normals” to lose. Second: relate to “normal” people on as equal terms as possible. Third: take on the challenge to construct a more inclusive society where your way of being different is an enrichment, a plus.

Poetry may be understood as discourse — even dialogue — in its own right. It is readily inferred that the writing of poetry is a mode of discourse and interaction with others — notably other poets. This clearly avoids any face-to-face interaction in the moment, as is suggested by the possibility which is the focus here. It is appropriate to note that the preparation and publication of scientific papers may also be considered as a mode of “discourse”, most notably within the scientific community. Scientific “debate” may well be associated with a succession of rounds of mutually critical paper publication — possibly over years.

At City Hall, Belfast, N. Ireland, 24 Nov 2012 – Let’s wake up, this is not about Hamas, this is not about the fact that Israel has no partner for peace. I sat with Yasser Arafat in his little compound before he was killed and he cried out for peace. I sat in Gaza with Hamas in 2008 and they cried out for peace. What was Israel’s answer? Israel’s answer was war against them, and not only dropping one or two bombs but the policy of the Israeli government, and look it up, is that when they go to war, they do the utmost damage. They don’t kill one or two, they destroy the whole people.

As the sharing economy picks up momentum, its reach has become global. In cities and towns around the world, people are creating ways to share everything from baby clothes to boats, hardware to vacation homes. There are also groups emerging that consciously identify with the big-picture sharing movement. These groups focus on education, action and community-building, and advocate for a cultural shift toward widespread sharing.

The DRC-Democratic Republic of Congo is rarely in breaking news, unless armed groups overrun cities on its eastern border. This was the case in 1996, 1998, 2004, 2008, and again on November 20, 2012. Associated Press reporter Melanie Gouby was in the stadium in Goma where the armed group M23 celebrated victory over Joseph Kabila’s government troops, assisted by UN blue helmets.

The role of the women in the struggle has been critical in ensuring that the energy of the fight remains undiminished. They are truly the ‘chingaris’ of the struggle and it is an honour to be able to present the award to them.”

Recently, a religion scholar wrote an article on the Huffington Post questioning the legitimacy of non-Indian converts to Hindu/Vedic traditions. The essence of the Vedic culture, today known as Hinduism, teaches that none of us are white, black, brown, red or yellow. We are spiritual beings, eternally lovers and servants of God, who have forgotten our spiritual nature and are wandering through this material world seeking happiness via money, power, sex, fame and other temporary will-o-wisps.

There is History in the UN 29 November 2012 vote: 138 YES to giving Palestine the UN status as “nonmember observer state”, only 9 NO, and 41 abstentions. Beyond Middle East politics the vote also mirrors the limits to the US global, and the Israeli regional, empires: 138 defy their grip and favor change, 41+9=50 do not, for various reasons. A crucial vote on a crucial issue is a crucial test. Who wants what?

The Gaza Ceasefire, unlike a similar ceasefire achieved after Operation Cast Lead four years ago, is an event that has a likely significance far beyond ending the violence after eight days of murderous attacks. So much for Norway’s eco-friendly image. Canada has mutated from a liberal, pacific, outward-looking values country to a thuggish petro-state, ripping up both international treaties and the fabric of its own nation. Another country, whose green and humanitarian principles were just as well-established as Canada’s, is undergoing a similar transformation. Again, it is not the people who have changed – in both cases they remain as delightful as ever – but the dominant political class and its destruction of both national values and international image. I am talking about Norway.
