Thinking Globally
Mazin Qumsiyeh – TRANSCEND Media Service, 20 Jul 2015

One thing about empires that people have to know: they do not last. They get the hubris to think they can last and that they can manage affairs of other people in perpetuity but this is an illusion.

Compassion Fatigue?
Prof. Mazin Qumsiyeh – TRANSCEND Media Service, 25 May 2015

So did humans develop compassion fatigue and does this bode ill for our future as a species? I do not know and cannot predict the future. I can only act against the negative trends and draw closer to other activists. When we do find people who still cares, we latch onto them and try to do something together to keep our sanity. We must never give up. We must “stay human” as Vittorio used to write to us.

May 18-UNESCO International Museum Day
Mazin Qumsiyeh – TRANSCEND Media Service, 18 May 2015

Further, the Vatican will now recognize the State of Palestine. Things are changing and Zionists need to realize that they can change nicely to move towards justice and equality or they will be forced to do so. The USA, the largest enabler of this rogue “Jewish state,” needs to change its foreign policy very quickly.

Deir Yassin to Yarmouk and Beyond: Reflections in a Flight to Paris
Mazin Qumsiyeh – TRANSCEND Media Service, 13 Apr 2015

The scientist in me wants to find logical explanations for why people kill each other and do not simply share and care for one another. I try to convince myself with my own words to visitors to Palestine: lighting a candle better than cursing the darkness, first do no harm, travel the path of your conscience even if few are doing it, etc. Maybe lack of sleep makes my mind wonder into Buddhist philosophies (Joyful participation in the sorrows of this world) and to mystic philosophies (Rumi’s words come slushing around my brain).

On Enlightened Self-Interest
Prof. Mazin Qumsiyeh – TRANSCEND Media Service, 29 Dec 2014

What is the nature of activism? Why do we do what we do? How much self-sacrifice are we really willing to take? What do those of us feel after lost jobs, after time in jail, after being beaten and gassed by Israeli soldiers, or after all of the above? How does one distinguish between selfishness and enlightened self-interest? Is activism for peace and justice the ultimate love of humanity or the triumph of optimism over experience? Is activism and living life simply the ultimate love of Mother Nature or of God? The following rambling thoughts do not intend to give answers but hopefully give us time to reflect and think.

Veritasphobia (Fear of Truth)
Mazin Qumsiyeh – TRANSCEND Media Service, 22 Dec 2014

20th century “heroes” like Helen Keller, Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr, Malcolm X, Che Guevara, Ho Chi Minh, Nelson Mandela, Ghassan Kanafani, Rosa Parks, and thousands of others follow those who in earlier centuries were called “prophets”. They are common people who shed their Veritasphobia and thus achieved remarkable things.

John Kerry Conducted a Theatre of the Absurd in Amman
Mazin Qumsiyeh – Middle East Eye, 24 Nov 2014

No one takes US ‘peace plan’ efforts seriously anymore – Amman meetings were proof of that. US Secretary John Kerry met in Amman with King Abdullah, PM Netanyahu, and PA leader Mahmoud Abbas for the umpteenth episode of the ongoing theatre saga dubbed the “peace process.”
