Testimony for Russell Tribunal on Palestine – NYC, 7 Oct 2012 – Sociocide is a new concept that has not found its place in positive international law. Eightfold Constraint on Constructive Conflict Control? In these strange times there would seem to be a strange preponderance of ways in which problematic conditions are articulated through use of words prefixed by “con”. There is therefore a case for exploring these phenomena more systematically. This is done here by clustering words of that form which are used with greatest frequency. The approach is to endeavour to isolate clusters which are especially important to processes of governance — or to concerns regarding the efficacy of that governance.

Critical activity cannot be carried out by individuals working independently, and that is why critical psychologists need their own institutions.

“Modern warfare particularly depends on oil, because virtually all weapons systems rely on oil-based fuel – tanks, trucks, armored vehicles, self-propelled artillery pieces, airplanes, and naval ships. For this reason, the governments and general staffs of powerful nations seek to ensure a steady supply of oil during wartime, to fuel oil-hungry military forces in far-flung operational theaters.”

Reports trying to create doubts about organic agriculture are suddenly flooding the media. The food revolution is the biggest revolution of our times, and the industry is panicking. So it spins propaganda, hoping that in the footsteps of Goebbels, a lie told a hundred times will become the truth. But food is different.

Perhaps the United Morons of America have a right to elect Mitt Romney president. But for the sake of the US and Israel, I hope that this will not happen. Some people say that Israel is the 51st state of the Union. Some say that it is the first among the 51. Whatever, our lives – and perhaps our deaths – depend to a great extent on the man in the White House.

Governments of all kinds seem to have at least one thing in common. They want to convince everyone that all their actions are performed in the best interest of their respective population. Of course, experience demonstrates that this is not necessarily true in any way whatsoever.

First Principle: The needs of those who need to sell something to live (to sell either their labor or some other saleable item) usually exceed effective demand. There are more sellers than buyers. Therefore, in a green, responsible, plural and caring (or “solidarity”) economy there must be work (or some other source of livelihood) that does not depend on sales.

Ecuador’s Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino said on Saturday [22 Sep 2012] he was weighing such a transfer as a possible alternative for Assange to “remain under our protection while also satisfying the demands of the Swedish justice system”.

CaspianReport – TRANSCEND Media Service,

The Israeli Arab conflict is the result of interactions of superpowers in the early 20th century. British and French strategic interests in the Middle East were related to the Mediterranean trading route, which went from the Suez channel to Indian markets. But the presence of the Ottoman navy based in the Levant was a direct threat to British interests. So the British and the French decided to divide the Middle East into smaller entities and countries to make it impossible for the Ottoman Empire to control them all. A century later, the legacy of European colonization of the Arab world is reflected by its many ongoing conflicts.

Are we thinking of using nonviolence? Or of persuading, or forcing, those with serious grievances to lay down their arms and reintegrate peacefully in civilian life?

Jere Van Dyk, an author, Taliban expert, former TV correspondent and ex-captive of the Taliban offers a unique perspective on the roots of the conflict in Afghanistan and Central Asia. He believes the Afghan and Pashtun peoples/cultures/histories/goals are poorly understood in the West (if at all). The Taliban do not accept the Durand Line drawn in 1893 by the British, which arbitrarily divided their Pashtun ancestral lands to artificially create the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

As our concern for human health and well being grows with each day, we too often find ourselves seeking solutions within the limitations of our health-care system.
