My Odyssey with Dairy Farmers
Moin Qazi – TRANSCEND Media Service,

1 Sep 2017 – When I travelled for my first assignment to a village as a bank manager, I believed the best way I could help the poor villagers was by helping them with loans for purchasing livestock. A cow (or a goat) is a much better medium for income than training a poor family to learn to set up a small business.

In contrast to other psychological writers, such as Dostoyevsky, who specialized in unconscious processes, Tolstoy described conscious mental life with unparalleled mastery. Oscillating between skepticism and dogmatism, he explored the most-diverse approaches to human experience. Above all, his greatest works, ‘War and Peace’ and ‘Anna Karenina,’ endure as the summit of realist fiction.

The Arab world is the geographic, historic and cultural point of convergence of the Muslim World. Islam was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad in the Arabic language in the Arabian Peninsula and, from there, the message spread across the world. The abodes of Islam remain platforms for debate and incubators for tensions and conflicting ideologies despite the passing of fourteen centuries since the Revelation. Certain issues of contention date back to the earliest years of Islam and have, remarkably, gone unresolved to this day. Such issues include succession (the Caliphate) and alternation in power, the separation of religion and State, innovation (Ijtihad) and imitation (Taqlid), and much more. Exploring these issues is no mere intellectual luxury. Even today these are still pressing matters as current political situation is mired in turmoil, uncertainty, and lack of vision.

24 Aug 2017 – Brazil’s government has abolished a vast national reserve in the Amazon to open up the area to mining. Covering 46,000 sq km (17,800 sq miles), straddles the northern states of Amapá and Pará, and is thought to be rich in gold, and other minerals. It is larger than Denmark. What seemed almost like science fiction to our parents is coming scarily close to the realm of feasibility: more and more countries are talking about stopping the production and use of cash in their economies. The message is carried by the most prominent link of the monetary chain: States. But the push is coming from somewhere else. Powerful lobbies are pushing ever stronger, in order to achieve total and absolute control of our economies.

Shelley wrote his poem in response to the Peterloo Massacre, which took place in Manchester on 16 August 1819. This poem advocating non-violent resistance to tyranny was an inspiration to Thoreau, Tolstoy and Gandhi.

24 Aug 2017 – Beyond the many and despicable sectarian adjectives the media may have wielded since 2015 to frame Yemen’s war within a binary that has the region locked in fictitious crusadic dynamics: Shiite Iran versus self-righteous Saudi Arabia, truths have had a way of eroding at such a construct. If one can understand the pull money can hold over state officials, politics, after all, is not child’s play, empowering fanatical despots is still counter intuitive.

E a agricultura em larga escala em vez de reduzir o impacto da pecuária no desflorestamento tem ajudado a ampliá-lo.

Edward Carpenter was an English writer, educator, pacifist, and socialist reformer who came from a middle class intellectual family. As others influenced by the Theosophical Society, he gave up formal university extension work and bought a farm which became a meeting place for discussions among many in the area − an early “back to the land movement”. He stressed using hand-made clothes, the non-killing and non-eating of animals, and the use of herbs for health.

22 Aug 2017 – Following the 2007-2008 global financial crisis and the Great Recession in its wake, the ‘new normal’ in monetary policy has been abnormal. At the heart of the unconventional monetary policies adopted have been ‘asset purchase’ or ‘quantitative easing’ (QE) programmes. Ostensibly needed for economic revival, QE has redistributed wealth – regressively, in favour of the rich.

The bombing was long, leisurely and merciless. Dean Rusk said the USA bombed ‘everything that moved in North Korea, every brick standing on top of another.’ After running low on urban targets, U.S. bombers destroyed hydroelectric and irrigation dams in the later stages of the war, flooding farmland and destroying crops. And so we remain caged in military thinking and the need to win, rather than understand.

Anti-Semitism, and its links to Nazism and Fascism, and now to Trumpism, are genuinely menacing, and should encourage rational minds to reconsider any willingness to being manipulated for polemic purposes by ultra Zionists. We can also only wonder about the moral, legal, and political compass of ardent Zionists who so irresponsibly label Israel’s critics and activist opponents as anti-Semites, and thus confuse and bewilder the public as to the true nature of anti-Semitism as racial hatred directed at Jews.
