Scott Ritter – RT,

5 Feb 2020 – The US has deployed “low-yield” nuclear missiles on submarines, saying it’s to discourage nuclear conflict with Russia. The move is based on a “Russian strategy” made up in Washington and will only bring mass annihilation closer.

29 Jan 2020 – When the mainstream media writes about war, even critically, the image that often comes to mind for me is an infant wrapped in plastic. Their nihilism became his own; their violence his. The film asks us to contemplate such a marriage of seeming opposites, its dialectic, and not turn away from the faces in the mirror.

6 Nov 2019 – The interests of the planet as a whole could easily disappear as anything but idealistic, ignorable abstractions. Disarmament? Give me a break. Not when regional powers are “challenging American hegemony.” Add to this the transnational, corporate interest in militarism. There’s no money in peace, a black hole, the lull between wars. Money doesn’t start to flow until the bullets and the bombs start to fly.

For those of us concerned with the struggle to create cultures of peace or, even, a world culture of peace, there are some fundamental questions to consider including the classic question discussed by two of humanity’s greats, Albert Einstein and Sigmund Freud–‘Why War?’ Peace entails far more than simply a state without military (including terrorist) violence and war. Beyond these forms of violence, many exponents of peace seek the end of other dimensions of what I call ‘visible’ violence.

About 12,000 years ago, late Stone Age humans precipitated the Neolithic (agricultural) revolution that marked the start of the steady rise to civilization. Coincidentally, this occurred at the same time as the beginning of what is now known as the Holocene Epoch, the geological epoch in which humans still live. However, since the industrial revolution commencing in about 1750, just 270 years ago, humans have been destroying Earth’s biosphere with such tremendous ferocity that the Earth we inherited at the beginning of the Holocene Epoch is vanishing before our eyes. And life is vanishing with it.

It is claimed that investment is a key variable in every development process, but, beware, not any type of investment. There are investments that contribute to the pursued development and others that hurt it or do not impact on the chosen path. Therefore, it is not right to talk about plain investment without delving into such heterogeneous universe and discerning which investment to make and who does it. Those are two intimately related critical issues.
