Media reports from 2014 claimed a vessel carrying that load was impounded at Beirut’s after making an emergency stop in the city and being denied permission to leave by customs authorities because it was deemed unseaworthy. In a letter published by a journalist, the ship was described as “a floating bomb and the crew is a hostage aboard this bomb.”

He would pay for that misjudgment with 16 years and 54 days of his life, locked away for a crime he did not participate in and did not know was going to take place. Released from prison, he was tossed onto the street, without financial resources and, because of fines and fees imposed on him by the court system, $7,000 of debt. He ended up broke in a homeless shelter in Newark–filthy, infested with lice and bedbugs.

And one third of children who were tested in Florida were positive. Amid this death and economic devastation, the stock markets surged, with the Dow Jones closing up for the fourth day in a row. Goldman Sachs posted one of its most profitable quarters ever, doubling the predictions of analysts.
